San Pablo Creek Stairs Destroyed
Pedestrian stairs leading to San Pablo Creek were dismantled and removed sometime between Sept. 8 and 11.
The stairs were installed as part of an Eagle Scout project, supervised by Eagle Coach Bruce McGurk, in order to provide safe access along the existing creek path for pedestrians and creek clean-up crews. The trail and stairs have been increasingly utilized by seniors, dog-walkers and others enjoying the tranquility of San Pablo Creek as it flows through Orinda Village.
The robust construction, supported by galvanized pipes deep into the ground, would not have been simple to dismantle. Anyone with information about this incident should contact the Orinda Police Department regarding Police Report #P242560615.

“I write today with the heaviest of hearts to let you know that our beloved institution, Cal Shakes, has hit an insurmountable financial impasse and [we] are faced with no alternative but to suspend operations, begin layoffs and take steps towards what will be the ultimate closure of the company,” he wrote.
Worsely added, “We are grateful to you for everything you have done to make Cal Shakes the venerable institution it has been for the past 50 years. More news [to follow] as the process gets underway. Please direct your questions and comments to cworsley@calshakes.org.”
