Bone-chilling autumn temperatures could not dissuade a cross-section of Orindans – toddlers through grandparents – from swarming to the corner of Brookwood and Orinda Way in front of the Orinda Theatre for the “Light Up Orinda” tree lighting on the evening of Friday, Nov. 15. As the Miramonte High School Choir sent holiday spirits soaring, the crowd broke into a cheer at the moment the trees lining Orinda’s downtown streets burst into what seemed like a glimmering salute to the winter holiday season. The lighting ceremony was put on by Light Up Orinda, a community beautification initiative aimed at wrapping the city’s street trees in lights, and co-hosted by the Orinda Community Foundation. Local businesses provided holiday fare and Morrison’s Jewelers donated diamond earrings for a raffle.
