The Orinda Starlight Village Players (OrSVP) celebrate their 43rd season this summer, and as always, preparation is accompanied by the sound of hammers and saws. Stage sets don’t build themselves, so getting ready for the June 5 premier of “The Murder of Roger Ackroyd” began in mid-April when the cast and crews of all three OrSVP productions this summer gathered to transform the empty outdoor space into a theater. And in community theater, those doing the hammering and sawing are usually the same people who get on that stage to perform when the skies darken and the audience gathers for Mark Shanahan’s new adaptation of Agatha Christie’s classic murder mystery. Matt Cardigan-Smith directs the play in the Orinda Community Center Park amphitheater, but like the returning ensemble cast, he too will spend more than a few hours making sure there’s a stage for the show.
