Toasts to all involved were in order after the Orinda-Moraga-Lafayette branch of the American Association of University Women finished their fashion show at Harper Green in Lafayette. The fashion show’s main purpose might have been raising money for scholarships for young women, but fun turned out to be just as high a priority.
The community fun meter was off the scale when the Orinda-Moraga-Lafayette chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) recently held a fashion show at Harper Greer in Lafayette.
Not only was a good time had by both the volunteer models and the dozens of community members watching the fashion show, but the proceeds from the show benefited AAUW’s local scholarship program, which is dedicated to helping young women make a positive impact in the Lamorinda community.
The enthusiastic models were members of AAUW and part of the scholarship committee: Elaine Ahrendt, Sari Heyman and Leslee Larner from Orinda, Karen Feeney from Lafayette, Bonnie Fend from Moraga, and Carol Heppenstall from Walnut Creek.
The local AAUW branch, which advances equality for young women through advocacy, education and research, gives scholarships to young women at each of the three Lamorinda high schools, as well as Saint Mary’s College in Moraga Recipients must demonstrate leadership through their community service.
And the fashion show – a feel good success by any measure – helped build the scholarship fund for Lamorinda’s very deserving young women.
