Troop 303 proudly recognizes and honors its newest Eagle Scouts (L-R) Orion Filippenko, Abigail Kim and Bryce Hanlon, for achieving Scouting’s highest honor.
Orion Filippenko, Abigail Kim and Bryce Hanlon are now Eagle Scouts – the highest honor in the world of Scouting.
The three members of Boy Scouts of America, Troop 303 were celebrated during an Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Orinda, surrounded by proud family members, friends and community leaders.
The Eagle Scout designation recognizes outstanding leadership, a commitment to community service and exemplary character – culminating in the successful completion of significant service projects.
Orinda Mayor Latika Malkani presented each scout with an official proclamation from the Orinda City Council, declaring a special day in their honor. Additional commendations were awarded by California Governor Gavin Newsom and State Assembly Member Rebecca Bauer-Kahan.
Achieving Eagle Scout rank typically requires four to six years of sustained dedication. The Scouts was honored for their perseverance and for completing a meaningful project that benefits the local community.
Orion Filippenko designed and built a new dumbbell rack and work-out station for Miramonte High School. The structure supports strength and speed training for student-athletes and was crafted with safety, accessibility and versatility
in mind.
Abigail Kim revitalized Dalewood Park by constructing a two-tiered community book box and collaborating with the Orinda Downs Homeowners Association to refurbish park benches and tables. Her project fostered a welcoming environment for reading and community engagement.
Bryce Hanlon led a team in restoring aging student benches at Miramonte High School. His efforts included replacing damaged wood, removing rusted hardware, repainting metal frames, and fully reassembling the benches – overcoming supply shortages and logistical hurdles along the way.
Through their dedication and service, these Scouts have made a lasting impact on Orinda and exemplify the values at the heart of Scouting.
