Orinda Boy Scout Troop 57 attended the Philmont Boy Scout High Adventure Camp in New Mexico from July 26 to Aug. 7. Ten scouts and two leaders backpacked for 12 days, completing a 53-mile trek through the Sangre de Cristo range of the Rocky Mountains, with the troop reaching just over 11,000 feet at its highest elevation point.

Then on Aug. 11, the troop hosted its first car wash at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. They washed approximately 80 cars and raised more than$15,000 in just three hours. A portion of the proceeds went toward the church for the use of their facility and water, while the remainder will be used to fund recruiting events, outings or troop supplies.
