Colin Doyle (Den #4) of Boy Scouts Pack #52, was proud to take 2021 championship with his car “Wolf” on Feb. 6, during the virtual Pinewood Derby race.

Next year, Pack 52 in Orinda will celebrate its 75th year as Pack and part of the Boy Scouts of America organization. Although a program challenged by the COVID-19 shelter-in-place restrictions, leadership committee was determined to provide a great experience around one of the highlights of the Scouting year, the Annual Pinewood Derby.
The Pack had 52 entrants, including several from families, friends and alumni looking to join in the virtual racing fun.
The event was held remotely on Saturday, Feb. 6 from 11 to 3:30 p.m. and run by the leadership committee, but recorded on Zoom, with race day color commentary offering Scouts and parents the opportunity to enjoy the fun from the safety of their homes.
It was a great turnout. Additionally, sponsorship donations from families raised over $2000 for the Pack in much-needed funding, given its annual mistletoe sales were cancelled due to the pandemic. These funds allow the Pack to continue to provide a quality program to the Scouts and families of Pack 52!
