Douglas Heine’s Full Circle, an inspiring, full-metal sculpture, has joined the public art collection at the Orinda Library. Heine (left) installed the piece Sept. 13, with a little help from his son, Mike Heine (center) and Rich Thompson, Chair of the City’s Art in Public Places Committee. Heine is a Vallejo-born sculptor who developed his art in a Berkeley studio shared with the Mexican sculptor Jorge Duron. After retiring from the art and astrophysics departments at U.C. Berkeley, Heine focused full-time on his art. A day of introspection on how many times his life has gone full circle, prompted Heine to make the Full Circle sculpture. He has public art installations at Solano College, St. Hilary’s in Tiburon and the Embarcadero BART station.
