The Lamorinda Arts Council invites the public to meet these talented exhibitors on Saturday, Aug. 3, at a reception in their honor from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. View and/or purchase artwork online at lamorindaarts.org/online-galleries.
Lisa Dell’Anno represents the Diablo Valley Branch of the national Soul Box Project. She is exhibiting eight 24” x 48” panels, each with 98 hand-folded 3” square origami (folded) paper boxes carrying the name of a victim of gunfire violence and/or a message of hope or protest. The project aims to raise awareness of the U.S. gun violence epidemic.
The Center for Disease Control’s 2022 study shows more than 48,000 firearm-related deaths in the United States or about 132 people dying from a firearm-related injury each day. Of these deaths, more than half were suicides. Dell’Anno said, “This display represents six days of gunfire deaths in America.” To learn more go to soulboxproject.org.
Thuy Linh Bennett Kang was born in Vietnam and fled war-torn Vietnam to come to America in 1975. After years of working as a teacher, she relocated to Eastern Europe and Central Asia, where she volunteered her time at orphanages in Kazakhstan.
She has painted throughout her life.
“My works explore the idea of isolation and the need to find meaning in the chaos of our mind. I’d like for viewers to question what they see. Whether it is something from nature or a dream,” said Kang, whose work can be found at linhkang.com.
Karen Hildebrand has created ceramics for 14 years and is showing 35-40 pieces. “While I have been inspired by several ceramics teachers as well as other students, nature provides me with endless inspiration,” she said.
Her “Raku Ceramics, Hand Carved Surface Design” 9” x 5” vessel is delicately drawn with dragonflies and pine sprigs overlapping a very fine Raku glaze.
Andy Törő was born in Hungary and is an American sprint canoer who is displaying some of his Olympic memorabilia. Competing in four Summer Olympics, he won a bronze medal in the C-2 1000 metres event at Rome in 1960 along with his doubles partner Imre Farkas.
