You are lucky if reaching for a bubble floating on a breeze captures your attention at one time or another, like the child in “The Elusive Bubble.” This 26” x 12” acrylic painting by Sharon Tama pulls us right into the green grass of summer on a bright sunny day. View it at “Stories We Tell” in the Art Gallery at the Orinda Library through Nov. 1.

Art Gallery at the Orinda Library: “Stories We Tell”
The Lamorinda Arts Council presents original artwork that demonstrates the power of stories using symbols and metaphors. This multimedia exhibit of images, words and music tells stories both ancient and contemporary. The voices of artists inhabit these spaces to spark our imagination and inspire us.
Meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments at this storytelling celebration on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. at a reception in their honor.
The following artists are exhibiting: Gina Barretta, John Brown, Joy Chew, Suellen Cox, Nancy Daniels, Elaine Drew, Jennifer Granat, Karina Hou, Georgianna Krieger, Lori J. Larks, Mary Leigh Miller, Connie Vaccaro Millholland, Denise Nomura, Jenny Rosen, Michiko Sakai, Gini Graham Scott, Susanne Simas, Ruth Stanton, Betsy Streeter, Sharon Tama and Nancy Vachani.
Saxophonist Krieger is showing eight music compositions independently released in her 2022 series, “Embrace,” with eight illustrations that accompany the music. Her “Invisible Woman” composition, consisting of five 8.5” x 11” full musical scores, is highlighted next to artwork of the same title. For more information go to georgiannakrieger.com/.
“The Healing Power of Water,” a 12” x 18” oil painting by Nancy Vachani, transports one to a faraway land where fresh flowers float atop clear waters dotted with tiny floating candles. “The Sanctity of Water” is set in crystalline temple waters where a woman in saffron robes sits in contemplation. The 16” x 20” oil painting tells quite a story. Follow Vachani on Instagram @vachaniart.

Art Gallery at Wilder: “Whiskers and Zen”
The Lamorinda Arts Council invites you to meet featured artist Joy Chew of Orinda in the Art Gallery at Wilder on Sunday, Sept. 15, at a reception in her honor from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., where light refreshments will be served.
Chew uses digital tools such as Procreate on her iPad, as well as other platforms. YouTube is also a valuable learning tool for her. Currently she paints with watercolors and water soluble pastels, which handle with all the smoothness of oil pastels.
“My goal is to evoke an emotional response in viewers – I want people to feel something,” she said.
Her exhibit focuses on digital paintings of cats and capybaras (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris).
“The calm, Zen-like demeanor of capybara challenges me to depict them in many settings,” she said. “I include whimsy, warmth and happiness in my paintings.”
Her favorite art educator is Canadian Marco Bucci, and she is inspired by the digital artwork of Loish at loish.net in the Netherlands. Learn more at joyousjoyness.com/.
