Kevin Schaeffer is the Director of Restoration and Library Management at Disney Studios and has been with the company over 30 years. He and his team oversee all the film vaults, the preservation of film elements and the restoration of Disney Studio, 20th Century Studios, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Selznick International Pictures and ABC Circle Films titles.

A restored Technicolor love triangle celebrating its 85th anniversary, a flying car, Humphrey Bogart delivering Truman Capote dialogue, and a well-heeled murderous pair up to no good are screen stories offering four great movie experiences at the Orinda Theatre this month.
The internationally lauded Disney Restorations Series at the Orinda continues on Saturday, March 7, with 1941’s “Blood and Sand.” Tyrone Power, Linda Darnell and bigger-than-life Rita Hayworth as the hypotenuse set the stage for a torrid Spanish love triangle – in stunningly restored Technicolor for its 85th anniversary – based on the book by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez.
The Orinda Theatre is honored to welcome Kevin Schaeffer, the head of the Restoration and Library Management Department at Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, who is traveling from the Disney studio to Orinda to introduce his restoration of the movie, in person, at both show times that day, 1 and 7 p.m. He will share before and after restoration comparison scenes before the movie starts.
The Wide Screen Road Show Series continues Sunday, March 8, at 11 a.m. with “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” starring the beloved Dick Van Dyke, presented in its giant screen road show version with an intermission. Fun for children of all ages, the original story was a creation of Ian Fleming of James Bond fame. Special road show price tickets are in effect for this show – $15 for all seats.
John Huston’s “Beat The Devil” is a truly campy classic offbeat comedy from 1953 with dialogue by Huston and Truman Capote. Humphrey Bogart, Jennifer Jones, Gina Lollobrigida, Peter Lorre and Robert Morley are in the cast at this month’s Cinema Craft Series offering, Sunday, March 29, at 1 p.m.
The first movie made in Technicolor by Alfred Hitchcock, 1948’s “Rope,” stars handsome Farley Granger and John Dall as a murderous pair that have something to hide in their studio apartment.
Their professor, James Stewart, begins to suspect something is amiss in this great movie that is the March Orinda Classic Movie on Matinee Tuesday, March 31, presented with half an hour of short subjects recreating what it was like to go to the Orinda Theatre in 1948. The entire program starts at 1 p.m., the feature is approximately a half hour after.
General admission is $13 and $11 for seniors and kids. “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” has a special road show ticket price of $15 for all seats. Buy tickets at the Orinda box-office, candy counter or online at orindamovies.com.
