A shooting in the Orinda hills that left one dead is still under investigation according to a Sept. 13 press release from the Sheriff’s Office.
The isolated incident, which occurred around 11:02 a.m. on Sept. 12 in the area of Las Vegas Road and La Espiral Road, involved two Orinda residents. City police responded, along with the fire department and an ambulance, and, although life-saving measures were immediately implemented, 50-year-old Scott Decker of both Orinda and Truckee was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The other party involved in the shooting was initially detained for further investigation but was released without arrest, as per information shared on the county sheriff’s Facebook page.
Although shootings are rare in Orinda, in the past five years, seven have died of gun-related deaths in or near the City. On Halloween night in 2019, five people were killed at a large party held at a short-term rental home on Lucille Way. A shooting on Highway 24 near Orinda claimed the life of a 22-year-old man in July 2023.
