A new face at the City of Orinda, Ross Volker is maintenance and facilities superintendent. When he’s not working, he may be found at Lake Almanor fishing (catch and release) or jamming to heavy metal music.

He rides a Harley Road Glide, loves to catch-and-release trout, has traveled to Europe, Southeast Asia and Central America, and mostly listens to heavy metal – but most important, he’s the newest face at the City of Orinda.
Meet Ross Volker, the new maintenance and facilities superintendent, who took the position on Jan. 6. He left the Livermore school district after eight-and-a-half years as maintenance manager for the greener hills of Orinda, and said it’s been “Great, everyone has been very welcoming and helpful.”
Born in Walnut Creek, raised in San Ramon, Volker said he took this job for “advancement into the public works side of public construction.”
Married with three stepkids ages 24, 21 and 20, Volker earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Idaho State University and completion of an HVAC apprenticeship with Sheet Metal Workers Union local 104.
In his new job, he manages the facilities and public works crew of 10 employees and the parks and facilities capital improvement projects.
“I like learning more about road construction and the civil engineering side of public construction,” Volker said.
Some of the projects his crew is currently working on include the Orinda Library, City Hall and Community Center exterior painting and library HVAC upgrades – which Volker said are currently ready to start.
For questions regarding city projects, contact Volker at the Public Works and Engineering Services Department at 925.956.9305 or email him at rvolker@cityoforinda.org.
