Brother and sister Callum (left) and Gwyn Ayers of Orinda feed the family’s 38-year-old California Desert tortoise “Gammera” a hefty chunk of watermelon. “This is her busy time of year eating flowers, fruits and weeds, bulking up for a winter hibernation,” said parents Matt and Elena Ayers.
