The iconic tower in the Lafayette Reservoir is scheduled to be shortened by 40 feet in an upcoming East Bay Municipal Utilities District (EBMUD) project to improve the seismic safety of the reservoir. The tower was built in 1929 and to maximize its strength and safety, a state agency has determined the $14 million project is a necessity. The tower shortening and two other reservoir projects will be the topics of a virtual community meeting on Oct. 9 at 6 p.m., via Zoom. Community members can register for the meeting on the EBMUD website (http://bit.ly/4puCawb).
