Orinda’s Stephanie Barmmer, a lifelong tennis player, was happily watching Serena and Venus Williams play a doubles’ match at the U.S. Open when a Serena smash sent the ball into Scott Barmmer’s hands. He turned it over to Stephanie, and the ESPN cameras caught her looking at the court and saying “Do you want it back?” In one of those viral internet moments, her picture wound up getting 19.5 million views on ESPN’s TikTok, 2.4 million on the U.S. Open’s TikTok, and 1.9 million on SportsCenter’s Instagram. Go figure … oh, and she never did give the ball back.
