ORINDA IS FULL OF FALL FUN
Over the summer the Orinda Juniors Women’s Club (OJWC) hosted a booth during the concerts and movies in the park, providing information about events and programs for about 25 nonprofits in Orinda.
Meeting new residents, long-time residents and other nonprofits reminded me why I live in Orinda. Everyone was excited about what our town offers, and now they have the information to get involved and attend a show, meeting or event.
Oct. 1 is the last Concert in the Park, and I will be at the booth, so stop by, say hello and see what interests you in the upcoming months.
How about some more music? The first Live at the Orinda! concert is Oct. 4, but tickets will be scarce because these cabaret-style shows are so popular. A big thank you to the Orinda Community Foundation (OCF) for helping fund Orinda events like this. Applications for grants from the OCF grant will end on Oct.15, (see article on page 20).
On Oct. 10 I will be playing the role of amateur bartender to support the Arts Council at Mixology in Theatre Square. Buy a ticket and vote for me! That evening, Elvis will be shakin’ at the Orinda Theatre, so I plan to stay all afternoon and evening in the Square.
Another fun way to support our community and make new friends is to join the Orinda Juniors, who will meet on Oct. 14.
Also on Oct. 22, Orinda community groups will participate in the Trunk & Treat event at the Orinda Library parking lot. The Orinda Association will open their office in the breezeway off the Library Plaza (event requires pre-registration through Orinda Park and Rec) so get your costumes ready.
Leading up to Halloween, on Oct. 30, Orinda Rotary’s Costume Party theme is “Dress Up, Dance Hard, Do Good” – and who wants to miss out on that kind of fun? The Rotary events are always fun and I’m working hard on a silly costume.
The OA will be wrapping up our 80th year serving our community. We hope you enjoyed The Orinda Association’s events and programs, like reading The Orinda News, driving with the Seniors Around Town ride program, watching Orinda’s July 4th Parade and most recently, attending the Orinda Classic Car Show.
The Seniors Around Town ride program and The Orinda News continue year-round to keep Orindans informed and involved. Although the 4th of July Celebration and the Classic Car Show are one-day events, the planning and fundraising keep us busy all year long.
