District 16 Assemblywoman Rebecca Bauer-Kahan last month brought the Rotary Club of Orinda up to date on her busy agenda in Sacramento. The first-time politician was appointed assistant speaker pro tem and has passed a variety of legislation, including bills on gun safety, protections for victims of human trafficking and the Natalie Giorgi Sunshine Act designed to help end deadly food allergy exposures. The Orinda mother of three brings a wealth of experience to her position, including many years as an environmental regulatory lawyer and law professor. She told the Rotary Club on July 10 that she has been working to increase funding to Orinda schools and to streamline transportation issues, especially toward the creation of a state-wide infrastructure for electric trucks and a regional rail line from Stockton to Livermore BART.
