Autumn Fun In Orinda
People in Orinda are known for getting involved, and it’s time to recognize those community members for making Orinda a better place to live – by nominating them for Orinda Citizen of the Year by Oct. 1.
Oct 1 is also International Day for the Elderly, to honor and support our elderly. This is where the Orinda Seniors Around Town ride program comes in – to keep our seniors healthy and independent. Thank you to all the volunteers who made the 20th Orinda Classic Car Show fundraiser so successful. Remember, someday you hope to be included in this group.
The final free Movie in the Park is Oct. 4. Bring blankets, lawn chairs and popcorn!
Politics is in the air this month. On Oct. 7, The Orinda Association will host a public forum to meet the candidates for City Council. The event begins at 6 p.m. in the Library Auditorium, as we continue our policy of keeping Orinda informed. A video of the event will be on our website if you are unable to attend. And, coincidentally, the Vote by Mail mailing is also Oct. 7, so watch your mailbox for your ballot.
Interested in meeting new people and helping the community? Orinda Junior Women’s Club is having its annual new member event on Oct. 8 at the Orinda Community Center.
Oct. 9, 1930, was selected as Fire Prevention Day, when the Great Chicago fire ended. Some areas of the country see their first snowflakes on this date, while we have seen ash flakes. Fire prevention is a real issue in Orinda. Check out Orinda Wildfire Emergency Preparedness and Evacuation Presentation video on our website.
Free Movie Night is Oct. 17 at the Orinda Theatre, showing Hitchcock’s “Shadow of a Doubt.”
Also, gather your friends for an entertaining event called “Art of Mixology” on Oct. 19 at Orinda Theatre Square. It’s where professional and amateur bartenders create craft cocktails and mocktails to taste as they compete for Mixologist of the Year – a fundraiser that benefits the Lamorinda Arts Council.
Get in the Halloween mood on Oct. 24, and stop by booths filled with activities, games and refreshments at Orinda’s Trunk & Treat. Pre-register for this family-friendly event with Orinda Parks and Rec. The Halloween Parade for Tots on Oct. 25 in the Orinda Community Center Park is the cutest event of the month, with fun activities for toddlers, their friends and parents in costume.
In autumn we start to see hay bales and pumpkins around town at Glorietta’s Funfest on Oct. 27, Sleepy Hollow’s Creepy Hollow on Oct. 26 and Del Rey’s Boo Fest on Oct. 19. Thank you to the parents and volunteers who create these lasting memories.
Live At the Orinda Concert Season kicksoff opening night on Oct. 27. Get a ticket and attend a special musical evening at the Orinda Theatre.
National Candy Corn Day is Oct. 30, and worldwide over 35 million pounds or 9 billion pieces are consumed annually. Jelly Belly factory has a machine that makes 1,200 kernels per second! Just in time for Halloween on Oct. 31.
Orinda Garden Club’s Highway 24 off-ramp beautification project installs hay bales, pumpkins and cute scarecrows. A BIG thank-you for their many hours of work donated to create this autumn tradition. Enjoy this fun-filled month and the changing colors and activities our town provides!
