Art Ambassadors showcases bursts of youthful color
Lamorinda Arts Council’s April exhibition features artwork from Orinda elementary and middle school student from grades one through eight. And on April 17, the the Orinda Intermediate School Jazz Band will play on the Gallery Terrace during the April 17 reception from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
A quartet of talented art educators work with students from all five Orinda schools which submit work to the show. Janet Robinson, Sleepy Hollow Elementary; Sean Ferguson, Wagner Ranch and Del Rey Elementary; Tim Christenson, Glorietta Elementary and David Morritt and Leslie Millstone, Orinda Intermediate School and the guiding hands behind the show.
“Our students have made amazing and creative artworks,” said Robinson, an art educator and event organizer. “We look forward to this year’s Arts Ambassadors Show and reception,”
Elizabeth Allen, the Executive Director of Orinda Network for Education, will present Lamorinda Arts Council Arts Ambassadors’ ribbons to all students at the reception – which is fitting, as Allen is passionate about art education.
“Art education is essential to the whole student. It gives young people a way to express themselves, build confidence and see the world through a creative lens,” she said. “The Arts Ambassadors program highlights what happens when students are given that opportunity. We’re grateful to our art teachers, families, the Lamorinda Arts Council, local businesses and our community for helping make these experiences possible. We look forward to celebrating our talented student artists together at the Arts Ambassadors reception.”

Somebody really likes her sneakers. Does this drawing remind anyone of a favorite pair of shoes from childhood? This could explain why many closets are filled with tall shoe racks. Audrey Noga, a fifth grader at Sleepy Hollow Elementary School in Orinda contributed this artwork as part of the Arts Ambassadors student art exhibit in the Art Gallery at the Orinda Library through May 1.
Virtual Gallery is available. Interested in a Community Gallery Exhibit? The Lamorinda Arts Council invites you to apply for a free online exhibit of up to 20 photographs of your artwork for a one-month period here: tinyurl.com/bdefwr2t. For more information, email suefarmerstudio@gmail.com.
