Though the spring sports’ season was far from complete by our deadline, Miramonte athletes have already recorded some impressive achievements. The boys’ lacrosse team won a North Coast Section (NCS) title (see page 17) and Molly Lynch not only won the Diablo Athletic League (DAL) championship, she was also tops in NCS.
In addition, the boys’ tennis team finished second in the NCS Division 1 team competition, and the girls’ lacrosse team took the DAL crown before moving to the NCS Division 1 playoffs. And perhaps the most stirring story was the dramatic turnaround of the boys’ volleyball team, which also advanced deep into the NCS postseason.
Girls’ lacrosse
Sparked by a trio of seniors, the girls’ lacrosse team won the DAL title and reached the second round of the NCS Division 1 playoffs.
Leading the way was league MVP Sawyer Bohlig, who coach Abby Bautista calls “dominant in every part of the field.” But casual fans will focus on Bohlig’s impressive scoring, as she averaged 4.4 goals a game.
But defense is part of the game too, and Elsa Schroeder’s play in goal was a big part of the Mats’ 6-2 finish in league play. “She is our anchor on defense,” said Bautista. “She’s hungry for the ball and extremely smart about the game.”
Miramonte got a boost when Camilla White was added to the roster. “She is new to lacrosse,” said Bautista, “but with a strong background in other sports, her athleticism was a game-changer for our program.”
Stunt
Jadyne Sorenson was a rock, figuratively and literally, for the Miramonte stunt team, serving as main base and competing in every routine all season. She was named second-team all-league for the Mats, who finished fifth in league, but beat out both Acalanes and Campolindo in
the standings.
Other key performers were Charlotte Sturtevant, who served as both base and tumbler, and Emme Gerhard, whose tumbling skills steadily improved during the season.
Swimming and diving
After winning the DAL diving title, Lynch looked poised to take the NCS title after a strong first round. But she fell into second place after the second round before taking over in the finals and claiming her first championship. The junior then moved on to state, where she finished 13th overall.
Micah Murdock also had a good year diving, with a second-place finish in the DAL and fourth in NCS.
In the pool, the boys finished fifth in NCS, their best since before COVID, and Gabe Hoffman, Laird Delbridge, Grayson Bloes and Rhys Williams broke school records in both the 200 and 400 free relays at the NCS meet – which coach Trevor Rose said “was the best any team I’ve had ever performed.”
All three boys’ relay teams qualified for the state meet, and Delbridge earned an individual spot as well.
The girls finished 11th at NCS and second in the DAL, despite not having an individual winner in the latter meet.
Boys’ Tennis
There’s nothing like beating Campolindo three times, which is what the boys’ tennis team did this year, but the last one was even sweeter, as the 6-1 win advanced the Mats to the NCS Division 1 championship, where the DAL champions lost to Foothill.
Raunav Agerwal, Riley Byrne and Michael Conway were the top three singles’ players, with Charles Richtenburg and Jeremy Antman topping the doubles’ ladder.
Boys’ Volleyball
From 2022 to 2025, the Miramonte boys’ volleyball team won a total of 12 games. In 2026, Aria Jahangiri completed a remarkable turnaround in his third year in charge, as the Mats went 18-13 overall, finished third the Valley division of the DAL and advanced to the semifinals of the NCS Division 4 championships.
“I have coached countless teams but I have never been more proud of a squad,” said Jahangiri. “They will forever have a place in Miramonte history and a special place in my heart.”
The team was led by three seniors who sparked the dramatic turnaround. Outside hitters Ryan Balonick and Mercer Ehrhorn-Lung combined for 578 kills, with opposite hitter Noah Benson adding 204. Junior libero Brendan Collins, also a three-year varsity veteran, anchored the back row for the first Miramonte team to get beyond the first round of NCS since 2008.
