Bridging the gap between words and images, the Lamorinda Arts Council (LAC) sponsored “Art Embraces Poetry” at the Lafayette Town Hall on Sept. 13 — or, if you prefer the classical Greek word for the process, “ekphrasis.” Either way, a poem was used by an artist as a springboard for a creation that drew on both works — shown above, Vallejo’s Tamika F. Bailey displays the poem that inspired the painting by Lafayette’s Leslie Golden. Other such collaborations can be seen on the stage in the background, all of which were introduced by the LAC’s Youth Ambassor Progam leaders Charliue Rivera-Gu of Miramonte and Sharanya Roy of Dougherty Valley. Next up for LAC is “Art Embraces Words” on Oct. 25, which not surprisingly will feature a Halloween theme and Halloween costumes.
