Great Reflections of 2024
As we near the close of 2024, it’s a perfect moment to reflect on the accomplishments, challenges and growth our community has experienced over the past year. On behalf of The Orinda Association, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all of you for your continued support and engagement.
This year has been one of connection, collaboration and resilience, as we’ve come together to strengthen our beautiful city.
At the heart of The OA’s efforts are the events and programs that bring us together and foster a true sense of community. The Fourth of July Parade, for example, was an unforgettable celebration of Orinda’s collective spirit.
This year’s parade exceeded all expectations and undoubtedly became one of the most spectacular parades Orinda has ever seen. Its success is a tribute to the tireless work of our community volunteers, particularly Parade Director Lisa Burlini and her dedicated team, whose commitment made it all possible.
The Orinda Classic Car Show also stands out as a highlight of the year, with perfect weather showcasing stunning Mustangs, Shelby Cobras and some of the most jaw-dropping cars on the road. More than just an automotive event, the Orinda Car Show is a true community festival, featuring live entertainment, delicious food and a shared passion for classic cars.
Once again, this event’s success was made possible by the efforts of our volunteers and sponsors, with special thanks to former Orinda Citizen of the Year Bill Waterman and his exceptional team, whose leadership made the show an unforgettable experience.
Perhaps my personal favorite initiative this year has been Seniors Around Town, a program which has had a profound impact on many lives. Thanks to generous donations, we’ve been able to expand our transportation services, helping more seniors access vital appointments and essential services.
Our volunteers have donated over 1,381 rides, covering a total of 18,367 miles in the past 12 months, ensuring that our seniors are not isolated or underserved. This service is a lifeline for many, and we are deeply grateful for the ongoing support that makes it all possible.
In addition to the signature events, The OA hosted the following important initiatives:
• The Crime Prevention Update Forum
• The Meet the Candidates: Political Forum
As we reflect on 2024, I want to extend my sincerest gratitude to everyone who volunteered, donated or sponsored our community programs. Your support has a lasting impact on the lives of your neighbors, helping to shape Orinda into a place where everyone can thrive.
As we turn our attention to 2025, we remain committed to making our community stronger – and we need your continued support. Whether through volunteering, contributing financially or attending an event, there are many ways to give back to the community that has given us all so
much.
Finally, I want to take a moment to express our deepest appreciation to Kathy Cordova, our Executive Editor, for her exceptional leadership over the past two years. Kathy has not only elevated The Orinda News, she has transformed it into a vital, must-read publication that truly serves as the heartbeat of our community.
After two incredible years, Kathy will retire at the end of December. We will miss her vision, dedication and passion, and are deeply grateful for the lasting impact she has had on the Orinda community.
Looking ahead to 2025, we are excited about the opportunities before us and remain committed to making Orinda an even better place to live, work and thrive.
Wishing you all a joyous holiday season and a happy, healthy New Year!
