A Fond Farewell to Alan Wong, Hello to Naomi Yuen at The Medicine Shoppe

Alan Wong recently handed the keys of The Medicine Shoppe over to Naomi Yuen, who, after working alongside Alan for a year, is now the new owner. Both Alan and Naomi graduated from the University of the Pacific Pharmacy School and share a commitment to taking care of their clientele as unique individuals. In 2000, Alan insisted on opening his store in Orinda and nowhere else because he loved the people and community. “Because I grew up in a small town like Orinda, I felt comfortable here,” says Alan. He and his wife Lily live in Alamo.
Prior to working with Alan, Naomi, employed by pharmacies in different locations, felt no continuity with clients where a large volume of business was the norm. “The Medicine Shoppe is at the opposite end of the spectrum and the climate and business practices remind me of my dad’s pharmacy,” Naomi notes. “My dad had his own pharmacy for 12 years in Walnut Creek where I was raised and knew Alan. That’s why the Orinda area is very familiar to me. I know I have some big shoes to fill. I will, however, do my best to serve and hopefully eventually gain the trust Alan has received from the community,” says Naomi.
After almost two decades as a practicing pharmacist in Orinda, Alan Wong offers this farewell to the people of Orinda: “Thanks for making the last 18 years the most joyful of my life. To see toddlers grow into college students is really something; I took care of whole families and I’ll miss that.” Wong supported Miramonte football and local Little League teams and organization. Naomi says she will continue this practice and is also considering having a booth at the 2019 4th of July celebration. Cathy King, Pharmacy Technician, and longtime staff member, is on hand to help make the transition as smooth as possible.
Alan will soon be traveling with his wife to Hong Kong and Europe. He has a 30-year old car to take care of and his customers have recently rekindled his interest in the Lamorinda Radio Club. His call letters are KK6WA.
Visit Naomi at 282 Village Square, Orinda, or check The Medicine Shoppe out online at http://www.oriinda.medicineshope.com or give them a call at 925-254-1211.
