Orinda Union School District (OUSD) officials accepted a big check last month in recognition of their efforts to be prepared in the event of a wildfire. A representative of the East Bay Schools Insurance Group presented the $10,000 check to the Board of Trustees on Aug. 12 as a result of the district purchasing and installing two 10,000 gallon water storage tanks.
One of the tanks is at Sleepy Hollow Elementary School and the other is at Wagner Ranch Elementary School. OUSD paid nearly $70,000 to purchase and install the tanks “I am proud of OUSD’s collaboration with MOFD (Moraga-Orinda Fire District) that has resulted in implementation of a variety of innovative strategies to prevent and defend against wildfires near our schools,” says OUSD Superintendent Carolyn Seaton.

Sleepy Hollow Elementary School’s 10,000 gallon tank gives firefighters an immediate water source in case of wildfire.
